Two-step sign-in
Definition
Two-step sign-in means entering a one-time code from an authenticator app on your phone as well as your password. Even if the password is stolen, the account is much harder to get into.
Why does two-step sign-in matter?
A patient CRM holds phone numbers, photos and health information. Passwords leak from other sites, get guessed or are stolen through fake e-mails. With two-step sign-in, an attacker who knows the password still cannot get in without the short-lived code generated by the app on the person's phone.
Setting it up takes a few minutes: scan the QR code on screen with Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator or a similar app. Keep the recovery codes somewhere safe in case the phone is lost. Closing a leaver's access straight away, and giving everyone their own account instead of a shared password, matter just as much.
