Commission plan
Definition
A commission plan is the set of rules a clinic or agency uses to decide which sales earn its sales staff or partners a commission, calculated on what, at what rate and when it becomes due.
What does a commission plan decide?
A plan answers four questions: who is paid (a coordinator, a salesperson, a partner), what it is calculated on (the accepted quote, the amount received, or a fixed sum per case), when it is earned (when the deposit arrives, when payment is complete, or when treatment is done) and what happens on a refund or cancellation. ‘3 per cent of the amount received, earned on full payment, clawed back on refund’ is a plan.
Working out commission by hand leads to arguments at the end of the month. Linking accruals to payment records and approving a statement for each person every month keeps it clear who earned what, and why.
