Online booking page
Definition
An online booking page is a web page where patients see a clinic's free times and book an appointment themselves, or leave a booking request, without having to phone.
How does an online booking page work?
The patient picks an appointment type, say a 30-minute consultation, sees the available practitioners and times, enters their name and contact details and books. Because the page offers only times that are genuinely free, the same slot cannot be booked twice. A clinic can also take bookings as requests for the team to confirm, rather than confirming them instantly.
The page can sit on the clinic's website or be linked from its social media profiles. If opening hours, time off, buffers between appointments and the minimum notice are not set properly, the page will offer the wrong times, so take care with them when setting up. It keeps taking bookings while you are closed, in the evening or at the weekend.
