Patient portal
Definition
A patient portal is a secure web page of the patient's own where they fill in the clinic's forms, view and accept quotes, and find their appointment, payment and travel details.
What does a patient portal give the patient?
Without a portal, the intake form goes by e-mail, the quote as a PDF, the receipt over WhatsApp and the hotel details in yet another message, and the patient has to hunt for them. A portal gathers it all at one address, so whenever the patient looks they see the latest quote, payment schedule and itinerary. The clinic spends less time asking whether the quote arrived.
Because a portal holds health information, signing in must be secure. A one-time code sent by e-mail, or a personal link that expires, are common choices and spare the patient yet another password. Opening in the patient's language matters almost as much as security.
