Setting up two-step sign-in
All you need is an authenticator app on your phone, such as Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator.
Open your account
Click your name at the top right and choose “My account”. Go to the “Sign-in and security” tab.
Choose “Turn on two-step sign-in”
In the “Two-step sign-in” section the status reads “Off”. Pressing the button opens the setup steps.
Scan the code with your app
Add an account in your authenticator app and scan the QR code on screen. If you cannot scan it, type the “Setup key” into the app by hand.
Enter the code it shows
The six-digit code renews every 30 seconds. Enter it and press “Turn on”; this confirms the app is set up correctly.
Save your recovery codes
Keep the recovery codes somewhere safe with “Download the codes” or “Copy all codes”, then tick “I have saved my recovery codes” and press “Done”. The codes are shown only this once.
When you sign in afterwards
After your e-mail address and password you are asked for the six-digit code from your authenticator app. If you cannot reach your phone, choose “Use a recovery code” and enter one; each code works once.
When your recovery codes run low or are lost, use “Create new recovery codes” on the same screen. You enter a code from the authenticator app; the new codes replace the old ones, which stop working.
Frequently asked questions
I lost my phone and have no recovery code. What now?
Recovery codes are the way back into your account, which is why saving them matters. If you have none, write to [email protected].
Can I turn it off?
On My account → Sign-in and security choose “Turn off two-step sign-in” and enter your password and a code from the app. It cannot be turned off while a workspace of yours requires it.
How do I move it to a new phone?
While you still have the old phone, turn two-step sign-in off and on again with the new one. If you no longer have it, sign in with a recovery code, then create new codes.
