Aftercare

Definition

Aftercare means keeping in planned contact with patients in the days and months after treatment: asking how they are, reminding them of check-ups and answering their questions.

What does an aftercare plan look like?

Picture a hair-transplant patient who has flown home. A message on day one recalling the care instructions, a ‘How are you?’ in the first week, a request for photos after a month and another check at three months and beyond make a typical plan. Each contact needs an owner, and when a patient reports a problem someone should get back to them quickly.

Aftercare means the patient is not left alone once home and can reach the clinic easily if something is wrong. Building plans once per treatment, instead of setting each one up by hand, takes the load off the team. Check-in messages are not a medical assessment; any clinical concern goes to a doctor.
